Out of State CollectionsThe U.S. Constitution establishes that judgements are reciprocal between the states. If you have a judgement against an individual or a business, and you know they have assets in another state, you can get your judgement registered in the other state. This is called getting your judgement "docketed". Then the judgement is good in both places at the same time.Judgements can be valid for as long as 10 years, and sometimes they can be renewed for an additional 10 years. However, the longer it takes to collect the judgement, the more difficult it can be. | |
